Welcome back to our weekly farm blog, chefs!
You have been asking and asking, now field peas and butterbeans are finally back! It will look a little different than before though, in our opinion, in a very good and beneficial way those of us on the farm and in the kitchen. First major change, a price decrease - the reason we originally paused the legumes was because we weren't happy with the price and we did not want to continue selling them until we worked out a new strategy. Prior, we were at $65 for an 8lb bag, now we are opening back up with a price of $59, but all purchases this week will be $56! We're also running a couple welcome back offers

The next change to butterbeans and peas we will offer is that we have added a second grower, Josh Johnson who is about an hour from the coast of SC. We will offer both Johnny McNair's and Josh Johnson's crops together. Lastly, we will stop offering fresh and only provide fresh-frozen bags to preserve the quality and more easily manage the stock. Fresh frozen often yields a higher quality product than fresh does, surprisingly. On the plate, the final result of the fresh vs the fresh-frozen is almost impossible to tell the difference unless you're cooking peas or beans that was harvested a mere 12 hours prior to cooking. So we find this to be a win-win. We can manage the cost of our operation when holding field peas and butterbeans, and the quality that you receive is protected and always the best!
That's not all that's new. We also have two varieties of kale from Wild Hope this week as well as red chard. Scotch Curly, Tuscan (Dino) are the kale varietals.
Our older, mature okra field is struggling to keep production at moderate levels and our new, young field hasn't punched in just yet so our supply will be limited this week. You should be prepared for potential shortages on okra this week.

This striking red chard variety is known for its vivid rhubarb-colored stems and tender, deep-green leaves. Grown and freshly cut at Wild Hope Farm, it offers a mild, earthy flavor with a touch of sweetness, and cooks down into a silky texture. Excellent raw in salads for color contrast, or quickly wilted, sautéed, or folded into grains and pasta.
