Bradford Farm Availability & Updates 11/10/25-11/14/25

As we brace for our first killing frost this week, we are excited to have available in limited quantities and for a short time, our very own citrus, grown right here on our Sumter farm! This has been a project spanning over 15 years. Read about them both below, our Citrumelo Lemon and Gold Tart Tangerine. Also, in the next couple weeks we will have the heirloom Taylor Turnip Tops, Charleston Wakefield cabbage and Candy Roaster squash, plus much more to follow!

SPECIAL REQUEST: We kindly urge you to consider adding at least one of our own Bradford Farm grown crops to your weekly orders. We are working with quite a number of other farms to bring you the best access to regional flavor that we possibly can, but the heartbeat of our farm is our homegrown crops. We can’t exist without moving our own crops too. So please review the crops we offer under Bradford Farm Crops below and consider adding one or more of them. It helps us more than you know.

Important info:

  • Still have muscadines available this week
  • Charleston Wakefield cabbage will be ready to go in 1 week!

⚠️ **Highlights of the week**⚠️

Citrumelo Lemon - Bradford Farm

Grown right here on Bradford Farm, Citrumelos were bred in the early 1900s by crossing an old grapefruit variety with a bitter lemon with the intention of creating cold hardy citrus after a devastating freeze that threatened to wipe out the citrus industry in the late 1800s. The Citrumelo was the most successful in having that classic lemon taste along with the cold tolerance. Citrumelo is much larger than super market lemons, ranging in size from a tennis ball to a small grapefruit. It is super juicy and very tart, but with that classic grapefruit floral quality that is so pleasing coming from it’s parentage. The rind is very bitter however, so not recommended for zesting. Perhaps could be good for bitters though. Shake up your cocktail game with Citrumelos, brighten your favorite seafood dish or do a lemon curd with a new twist on the run of the mill lemon. Here is a new weapon for your flavor arsenal.

Gold Tart Tangerine™️ - Bradford Farm

Our Gold Tart tangerine is surely our favorite citrus variety on our farm. For more than 15 years we have been on a quest to grow citrus far outside of its warm range here at our Sumter farm. We have been so impressed with Gold Tart. It withstands temperatures down to 4°F! Unlike most tangerines, Gold Tart does not ripen to a true orange color, but rather a beautiful sunset gold! The rind is an easy peeling true zipper-peel that is super soft, floral and tasty even fresh, so certainly can be an excellent choice for zest, candying, and more. The pale orange to yellow flesh is segmented like mandarins and packed with juicy sweet tartness, light acidity, and spritely essence. Sweet enough to enjoy eating out of hand, but unique from the over-bred super sweet oranges common on the market these days. Be prepared to for your tastebuds to be dazzled!
