Bradford Farm Availability & Updates

5/12/25-5/16/25

⚠️ **Highlights of the week**⚠️

NEW Spring crop Bradford Collards

Bradford collards, our staple crop on the farm, are superior to every collard on the market. Our family has been growing them since the 1850s. They are completely unlike any of the commercially available collards today. Ours have been selected for 170 years to be sweet, tender, and crisp whether cooked or raw, stems and all. They cook much faster and produce a far more flavorful and tender product.

These are available year round, so feel free to make them a mainstay on your menu!

NEW spring crop Charleston Wakefield Cabbage

This wonderful 1800s cabbage truly is the most tender and succulent cabbage we’ve ever eaten!

Cooks in mere minutes.

Charleston Wakefield Cabbage was the dominant cabbage of coastal SC in the late 1800s. It was the preferred cabbage for making kraut in the south for its tenderness and fine texture.

This cabbage originated with a grower at Martin's Point, SC (Wadmalaw Island). As with many older open pollinated varieties, despite its superior flavor and other attributes, its fragile nature and tenderness was its Achilles’ heel when it came to shipping great distances. It took a while to get this crop up and running, here at Bradford Farm, but it is here now and has become a favorite among our chefs!

NEW Santee Sweet Onions - bagged

10#, 25#, 50#

Same delicious onions, just without the tops!

NEW Red Bell Peppers

Our brilliant crimson, sweet and crisp red bell peppers truly are as delicious as they look! These aren’t those rubbery, wrinkled ones you see in the grocery stores. Ours our tight, firm and amazingly crunchy!  Mother Nature spent a little extra a time on red bells, too, because not only did she make them beautiful, tasty, and aromatic, but she also loaded them up with Vitamins A and C and healthy dose of antioxidants! Feel no guilt eating copious amounts of these nutritious treats!!!

NEW Hakurei Turnips- Clem’s Organic Gardens

Coming straight from the Appalachian mountains and that wonderful cool soil, Clem’s Hakurei turnips are now IN! These turnips have a more mild flavor than the old favorite purple top, are sweeter, crisper, more tender, and great even raw, plus it doesn’t have to be peeled!!! A hard sear will caramelize them well and bring out even more sweetness!

NEW Baby Bolero Carrots- Clem’s Organic Gardens

Since I’m writing this away from the farm currently and don’t have a picture of his baby carrots that do them any justice- This is ^Clem Swift^ the master grower up in the mountains of Pisgah. He’s got baby Bolero carrots now, the beloved Bolero spring carrots have been well received among our chefs who have been raving about their sweet flavor and hearty crisp bite. We are thrilled to bring the baby versions of the Boleros through Clem. These bad boys are exceptional for serving whole, roasted, seared or especially raw!

NEW Santee Sweet Onions with tops

South Carolina's very own challenger to our neighboring Georgia Vidalia.

Nat’s thoughts:

“The ‘Santee Sweet’ onion is the same onion variety grown in Vidalia, Georgia, but the soil’s here produce what I think is an all-around better onion. To me, Vidalia onions are delicious and sweet, but lack that recognizable onion-ness that makes an onion what it is. The Santee soil where these are grown just down the road still produces a very mild and sweet onion, but there’s still enough of a true onion note that you know you’re eating an onion.”

These are grown with great care and love by our partner farmers, Dorr Farms, who is also growing our strawberries!

Gold Tomatoes

You know summer is just around the corner when the sunny golden tomatoes arrive! Bright and beautiful, and only surpassed by their delicate, subtly-acid flavor. A great twist on a classic Bloody Mary or golden gazpacho! No matter how you choose to use them, you can hardly go wrong!
