Pictured above: Dorr Farms’ large, plump blackberries
Hey everyone! Tomato season is finally hitting big right on time for summer. Hickory bluff is providing us with their mixed heirloom cherry tomatoes and Clem’s is bringing their mixed Appalachian heirloom tomatoes. They are super fresh, vibrant, acidic and loaded with intense tomato flavor.
Dorr has a couple of new crops in this week too. Blackberries have been available for almost 2 weeks now but we need to highlight them real quick - these berries are the best we’ve had. Chefs agree, they are plump, juicy, tart and sweet. As strawberry season has now walked out the door, blackberries come in to take their place alongside peaches. The other new Dorr crop is the first of their pepper harvest - SHISHITOS! Read about them below in the highlights.
COMING SOON
- Beets, badger flame - soon
- Rhubarb - hopefully this month
SPECIAL REQUEST: We kindly urge you to consider adding at least one of our own Bradford Farm grown crops to your weekly orders. We are working with quite a number of other farms to bring you the best access to regional flavor that we possibly can, but the heartbeat of our farm is our homegrown crops. We can’t exist without moving our own crops too. So please review the crops we offer under Bradford Farm Crops below and consider adding one or more of them. It helps us a ton.

NEW! Heirloom tomatoes, mixed - Clem’s Organic Gardens

We are super thrilled to bring in heirloom tomatoes from Clem’s this year. They’re growing 8-10 different varieties of tomato to work into their flats. Their well-drained, mineral rich Appalachian soil has produced really flavorful tomatoes, the best I’ve tasted this season. The aroma is strong and structure is solid, boasting high acidity where some heirloom tomatoes on the market lack that bold acidic taste we love in this fruit. Terroir matters, you’ll notice the difference with these ‘maters.
NEW! Heirloom cherry tomatoes, mixed - Hickory Bluff Berry Farm

The Parkers have just come to the table with their heirloom cherry tomatoes, a vibrant mix of several chef favorites. Sungolds maybe topping that list. They are bright, acidic and bursting with intense tomato flavor. Just in time for summer!
NEW! Shishito peppers - Dorr Farms

New this week is one of our chefs’ favorite summer ingredients - the shishito pepper. Dorr Farms produces excellent peppers of great structure and flavor. The Santee soil is a prime soil type for peppers. Their shishitos are picked to order, we deliver them within two days of harvest - very fresh - and you’ll have a hard time finding a better grown shishito. Maynard Dorr has been growing peppers in his soil for decades.
Shishito peppers are tender with mild heat containing the occasional spicy one — perfect for char-grilling or quick pan blistering.
