This delicious, multipurpose apple gets its name from its parents, as well as its great qualities. It is a cross between the Jonathan apple, where it gets its crisp tartness, and the golden delicious, which gives it its sweet light texture. It’s been around since 1953 and has become a September/October favorite at apple stands and local markets.
